Cheap stereo for Civic or somehow wire in my Zen Mp3 player?

I've been out of the country for a while and am just getting my car back up and running after about a year. I originally was going to get rid of the car (my first purchase when I was 17) but will have to probably wait a year or so. I'm tight on money and my CD player is broken but I can't go a year without music. I don't really want to invest too much in this, so not too picky about quality but at the same time I don't want my music to cut out and skip etc. I don't need an amp and all that stuff...just something to play CDs or maybe my Creative Zen Mp3 player.

Which would be easier and cheaper--I think my option is to go to Walmart or something, get a head unit and have them put it in? I have gotten a head unit before from the store and had 3 guys try to put it in for me-- Civics have some sort of different way to get the dashboard thing out-- by going thru the steering wheel or something-- long story short nobody could figure it out, so that is an issue with doing it myself.

Or else I could figure a way to wire in my Zen, but if the quality wouldn't be the same as the CD then I'd probably try to do the other way.

Any advice??

You wont want to wire in just your Zen, as it won't have enough power to move your speakers, but there are plenty of cheap radios out there to choose from.

If you have a BestBuy near by, that might be your best bet. They sell a JVC for $80 that does everything you need it to, and the install on it would cost you about $100 (assuming you have to buy all the parts).

You can also check around town for local shops. Alot of times they will offer free deck install, but be weary of brands you don't recognize.

There are plenty of good cheap decks from reputable manufacturers, so avoid going with shady products. Stick with: Pioneer, JVC, Kenwood, Alpine, Eclipse, Sony, Panasonic, Kenwood, etc.

Control mp3 with car stereo?

I have a creative zen mp3. I bought a new car with an aux input and usb input and would like to control/skip through play lists from my steering wheel controls When I plug the aux cable to my mp3, it plays fine. I just can't change the songs through the steering wheel or stereo buttons. Why won't this work? Don't tell me I have to have an ipod. What do I have to do to make what I have work? What do I have to buy to make this work (other than an ipod)?
I have figured it out on my own. Thank you for posting answers, even to the one with the fermented apple brain. All anyone has to do, who doesn't want to pay for an over priced piece of plastic and microchip, is purchase an inexpensive flash drive, transfer your music to it, then put it in the usb port and you will be able to control your music from your stereo or steering wheel controls.

It is sad that our society is brain washed into thinking that we have to throw away our money on over priced junk because of a brand name or what the media has over hyped up to be cool. Cool is money in my pocket while I watch as everyone else looses theirs on their over priced plastic.

You already answered your question with your stubborn statement against ipods. That is the only way, usb or ipod. Most mp3 players are not supported because the only usb capabilities they have is to sync for adding files and not audio playback. aux will work because its audio only and that is the only way you can play that type of mp3 player through your radio. So literally what you have to do is buy an Ipod for that type of feature.
