Steering Wheel wobble - Steering Wheels

What could cause my steering wheel to wobble when I brake?

My friend said it could be my stabilizer bar or something. It only happens when I brake after going at a decent speed (normally on the highway going 50+ MPH). The steering wheel wobbles back and forth and sort of vibrates. It just happened the first time last night and scared the crap out of me. Also, if you suggest what it could be, please let me know about what I can expect to pay for it to be fixed. It's a 2003 Eclipse Spyder. Thanks!

Warped rotors are the problem. The cause of the problem is going to be one of two things, either riding the brake too much, or hard braking. Both would be corrected by being conscious of the way you brake. Having your rotor resurfaced wont work if they are warped, they will need to be replaced. You can pick up a rotor at your local auto parts store for just under 50 dollars each. You will also need to replace your brake pads as well. Good luck and call around for the best price instead of getting the first shop you contact. You might think about taking some one with you to have it repaired, some shops will take financial advantage of women that don't have a lot of knowledge of the auto repair industry.

sounds like it's out of allignment..

Warped rotors. You'll need to get them resurfaced/turned and it may be time for new brake pads as well.

What would make my 1997 Cadillac DeVille steering wheel wobble when traveling at low and high speeds?

1197 Cadillac Deville Northstar
The car is riing as if it has a flat and is also pulling to the left
The steering wheel is shaking intensely

tire balance, if a wheel has thrown a weight it can casue this, but abnormal at all speeds
bent rim
bad stearring gear
bad drag link
tie rods
alignment
likely a bent rim
jack the car up and spin each wheel see if one wobbles badly, but you will likely have to derive a way to get it up to speed to show in this manner, if wobbles only ay high speed you can assume a thrown weight, all speeds bent rim or a thrown wheel nut or broken wheel stud, loose nuts also can make the whole wheel slap back and forth
bad wheel bearings inside the wheel, cracked internal wheel that the tire attaches to.
bent front frame
it is a easier to check for to the most expensive to repair,
so start at what you can do youur self and look for, and go to the more difficult, it is hard to say simply buy a wobble fast and slow speed, so
check the tires, wheels if ok remove them and spin the spindles if ok take them apart and check the internals for damage, the actual spindle can crack and cause sever wobble coming back through the brake shoes and effect the sterring wheel a whole lot if you think about it, but i have only see this twice in my life, but it happens ok

2011 Chrysler 200 Convertible Limited, an Autoweek Drivers Log Car Review

DIGITAL EDITOR ANDREW STOY: I know Chrysler significantly upgraded this 2011 Chrysler 200 Convertible Limited after the bankruptcy, and I also know it's an interim model meant to maintain sales while an entirely new midsize car is brought to market. But the 200 just isn't a competitive vehicle, even in hardtop convertible form, and even with the new Pentastar V6.

Full disclosure: I had the 200 convertible on a murky, cold, rainy night (and morning) in Detroit, so I was stuck with the top closed--never an ideal situation in which to evaluate the merits of a cabriolet. With the top up, the 200 was noticeably tight, with a solid-sounding body structure and no trace of water leakage.

The flaws were in the details. The shifter slid in its gate with a plastic-on-plastic scrape. The autolock mechanism on the doors sounded like cell block H bolting closed for the night. Even the vaunted Pentastar V6 engine was coarse and poorly insulated in this application.

My girlfriend in high school often borrowed her mother's 1988 Chrysler LeBaron convertible for us to tool around the Atlanta suburbs in. While my memories of that car may be artificially rosy, I was surprised at how much the 2011 Chrysler 200 convertible reminded me that old K-car ragtop--the feel of the controls, the rough edges, the raspy engine. It was all there.
