Steering Wheel volume control - Steering Wheels


Can you hook up steering wheel volume control buttons to aftermarket stereos?

I'm currently looking to replace my stock car stereo with an aftermarket one. My question is if i have the volume control feature on my steering wheel will I still be able to use them?
I also have harman kardon speakers with the button that turns on the amplifiers. Will they be able to work with a new stereo?
Will this require simple connections or will it be tricky?

well make sure you pick a stereo that has the ability to use steering wheel controls. its just a lot of wiring to do but go to a bestbuy and they will show u which they are and when it comes to that let them install it to i did mine by myself but it was tricky

Can you install a volume control steering wheel on a 04' Grand Prix?

I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GT and I have a steering wheel which has the volume control for the radio off of a 2005 Grand Prix. My car doesn't come with volume control, so I want to know if I can install the volume control steering wheel on my car and use the volume controls for my radio like the 05'. Will I have to make some Mods, to make it work?

One thing I know is that in most cases cars use the same harnesses as to not have to one op a bunch of harnesses, best thing to do is ask a service person at a dealer ship if your car has the plug in your steering column for that feature. Kinda like the heads up display on the Grand Prix, some cars dont have it, but if you remove the plate, the plug is sitting there unused, so in the case of the steering wheel, it may be the same, also ask if on the radio side that it will control it. Its very possible that its a plug and play upgrade :) The other thing to find out is if your '04 Grand Prix's air bag will fit that '05 steering wheel (unless you have the bag for the new wheel) They could have changed the wheel a bit or with the wheel controls the new bag may sit differently. Another thing to find out is if they may have changed from single stage to dual stage air bags between '04 and '05. Sorry I dont have that information, but I bet you didnt know some of that stuff :D I did an upgrade on my wheel in my Lexus to the wood grain and all those questions came into play.

good luck, you may very well be able to just swap it out with no problem, I'm betting that the harness for the controls are sitting in you steering column unused :)
