steering wheel turns but wheels dont?

steering wheel turns in 89 jeep but wheels do not.
went to a mech and he said something that deals with the steering underneath the car was hanging on by one bolt.

He said it would cost thousands to fix the missing bolts. . . . wtf :-/ . . . nah nah nah . .

Now does that even sound right?

Anything dealing with steering costing thousands of dollars? With bolts?

It could be your steering rack. But, that was $1000 in my BMW, not an older Jeep

It could also be a steering relay rod....which is like $60

I'd find a different mechanic

i have a 2000 durango the steering is messing up very very stiff the steering wheel turns but the wheels dont ?

had the power steering pump replacedas well as raket pinon any ideas?

you said the steering wheel was turning but the wheels aren't, did you hook the rack up the steering shaft, because it would have to turn the wheels even if the power steering pump was bad on it,and wasn't working,if that's not the case you got something binding it up,if all was replaced new you may have got a bad rack unit ,it happens sometimes, good luck.

FORD MODEL T (1909-1927):

About the car: This is the car that put the world on wheels. Ford Motor Co. sold more than 15 million of them. Its durability is legendary.

Why it's scary: There are four wheels on this car, and only one has a small brake. The transmission has the remaining braking power, which, in turn, slowed the car. Good thing it only has 20 horsepower.

BRIGGS AND STRATTON FLYER (1919-1925):

About the car: This motorized buckboard has a 2-horsepower Briggs and Stratton motor powering a rear-mounted, fifth wheel.

Why it's scary: Marketed for children, the Flyer lacked a body, windshield or doors. You slow it two ways: by moving a lever, which picks the fifth wheel off the ground, or by pressing the brake pedal, which presses the rear fenders against the tires.

STANLEY STEAMER (1901-1927):

About the car: Steam, having been used on railroad, was the power of choice when inventors created horseless carriages.
