Can you use a steering wheel boat motor as a normal outboard motor?

I have a 14ft fiberglass jon boat. today someone offered me a 40hp envirude motor that he had on his boat that has a steering wheel. my boat doesn't have steering wheel. he told me I can use is on my boat without have to install a steering wheel. does anyone know if its truth?

He is correct/ assuming the tiller handle is installed or available to be reinstalled if it has been removed. The tiller handle turns the motor and operates the throttle. The gear shift is unaffected. However, a 40 is pretty heavy and powerful for a 14' jon boat. Check your boats HP and weight limits.

You may have to purchase a tiller steering system for the motor, assuming the 40HP doesn't already have one.

Need a new boat steering wheel for my boat please help!?

I replaced the steering system on a boat I bought and I realized that the wheel was used for a rack system and I purchased a rotary. I bought a Teleflex system and do I need to buy a Teleflex steering wheel or do they just have to be the same shaft size 3/4?

Yes. As long as the wheel fits the shaft and its keyway and taper, it can be used on any system.

To me, not taking advantage of the ocean is a near criminal act here in our fair town.

Unfortunately, as chronicled by myself and various other people (including the voice in your head), we can't have exactly the same fun as some of our other coast brethren - sorry but I ain't going swimming or surfing here.

This leaves us to the one thing that Long Beach really excels at above (perhaps) every other California coastal city: Boating!

Unfortunately for me (and maybe you), the sporting life of boating costs a pretty penny for those of me (or us?) that have a 1995 Jeep Cherokee he prays doesn't break down any time soon.

I've solved this problem in the past with being a superb mooch, along with having to cover some boating events from time to time (and therefore, needing a ride in the water to do so).

Lately, however, that mooching connection ran out when my buddy Jared moved to Seattle and took away "our" (the term my friends and I callously use) sailboat the Sea Buzzard. How he could be so selfish, going and getting a better job in a different city and then selling the sailboat? The world may never know.
