Steering Wheel noise - Steering Wheels

Steering wheel makes a grinding noise at very low speeds?

Car Details: Hyundai Elantra 2000 GLS
While parking or at very low speeds, steering wheel makes noise when turned in both the directions. Mostly sound comes from front part of the car. Though passenger next to driver seat cannot hear that. Could anyone plz advise something?
Thanks in advance
Is it a serious issue? I wanted to make a quick trip of around 100 miles for couple of days. Do you think I can get it checked after that?
@ Harley Drive: Any idea what could be the expense in that case?

more than likely you're low on power steering fluid. It can cause a growling/grinding noise and make the car hard to turn.

either that or more likely you have one or more worn or dry ball joints

Steering wheel make some noise in winter when start the car?

Recently, I find in the morning when I start the car, and make the first two or three turns, the steering wheel makes some rubbing noise. Then noise is gone. Does it have something to do with the weather? It is cold recently. I hear the noise only when the car is started cold. Thanks.

nylon and plastic bushes tend to squeak when cold spray round where the steering wheel meets the column with furniture polish this contains silicone and is a good clean lubricant
