My steering wheel feel loose ,pulls to one side also,The problem started when I change my rack pinion.Any suggest ? The vechile is 01 Dodge Durango 5.9, 4 wheel drive!
Thanks!
did you get the alignment? or did they tell you they did it and didn't? get this checked unless you'd like to keep the pulling, which will eventually ruin your front end anyway.also have the joints and tie rods checked, by someone reliable, not a back yard mechanic, or ultra cheap. good luck

I drive a dodge durango 2000 sport, and mine did the same thing to me
and i bet it was the same thing.. and it probably happens to alot of durangos
its the power steering.. it seriously is a piece of crap. I have had to change mine like 3 times. But honestly, the cheep fix is to get power steering fluid and put more in every 2-3 weeks (about 5-6 dollars a bottle)
hope I helped! :)

My steering wheel feels relatively loose than normal. Is this a cause for alarm?

Last week, I brought my car to the dealership for a check-up. The steering felt loose on the "second quadrant" of the wheel, and the reverse wouldn't engage in the gear shift. The dealership told me that it was simply a problem with the programming, and that they reset the multifunction switch in the shifter, and the problem was resolved--but, the loose-feel to the steering still remained. They noted that they inspected the tie rods and the suspension, and that everything seems to be holding well together at this time. Well the thing is, I'm not comfortable driving with a different "feel" to my car. It feels so easy to turn to the left. You can tell just by comparing how the wheel feels when you turn it to the right. There is a DIFFERENCE. The right side has this normal "resistance" to it, but the left does not (I do not need to exert the same amount of force on the opposing end of the steering wheel, meaning that they are not symmetrical-in terms of an alignment [I think] somewhere). I know my car, and I know that this is not it's usual behavior. Should I bring it back to the dealership to have a second opinion? They did report to me that things were working well. So, should I be alarmed?
If it helps to indicate, my car is a Jetta by the way. 1.8 T engine.
That's the thing :( ! They test drove it twice already- the first time was with me, and the next time was after they fixed it (although I think they probably tested it thrice though). And they told me it was fine. It was exactly this time last week I was having this problem. I suggested it was the rack and pinion or the tie rods, but they even stated it in black-and-white that they were all secure. Arghhh. This ticks me off.
Hmmm... Leakage of fluid from the pistons? Possibly.
*Sigh*... Alright. I'll take it back to them. Although I'll be left car-less again. Bummer.
Thanks for the advice!
If you can definitely tell a difference between right and left steering it's likely going to be a rack and pinion problem and leakage of fluid.
You should take it back. You can also get a second opinion from a different mechanic shop.

It's as if the steering wheel is loose? Moves approx. 1 inch left and right from center without budging the wheels.
