Hold a steering wheel 10:2?

What is the 'correct' way to hold a steering wheel in the state of California these days? I need to take my driving test soon and my parents tell me 10:2, but I recall reading in the hand book to hold it either 9:3 or 8:4.

There is a couple of right ways depending on what you are doing.

I hold at 10 and 2 and then when turning do push-pull at 8 and 4.

Doing push-pull at 10 and 2 isn't as easy or safe, while holding the wheel at 8 and 4 during straight driving will limit the amount you can turn the wheel before having to let go unless you do an unnatural pushing movement first.

Do I really have to hold the steering wheel in 10-2 format for the NYS Driving Test?

I feel uncomfortable driving this way, mostly because I'm 6' tall and I have long arms.
(And, if I slide the seat back, I'll have a massive blind spot in my sides)

In relationship to a clock, I'd much rather prefer 7-12.

Is that okay...my driving instructor says its ideal.

as long as you have both your hands on the wheel, the formation is not that important.

Personally, I sometimes do a 12-5 formation, or 3-9, or 5-7. and you can place your argument to ur examiner saying that you prefer this formation to avoid blind spots. be confident, and everything will be ok.

Driving is not about how you hold the wheel or how you make the car move, it's all about anticipating the car behavior, and anticipating how other drivers on the road will behave, this is what gets you from point A to point B unharmed.
