My 1993 Astro Van has a bad pitman arm. Please help!!!?
The mechanic told me not to drive it at all. How can I do that?? I am a single parent who works out of town. Every day I have to take the kids to daycare/school then drive 19 miles one way to work. The fact is, I HAVE to drive it. I don't have any friends/family that can help so PLEASE don't assume ppl are waiting in line to help us. I just want to know what is gonna happen when it breaks so I"ll be ready. Will it break off? Will the rack and pinion come off too?? Do the wheels themselves stop turning and if they do, can I still brake? How fast can I go w/o flipping the van when it happens? Please help... :((
the Pittman arm Controls the steering of the van, if it comes off the van will go where ever it wants, not a good scenario, duration is hard to say its like trying to judge a bearing might go a day might go a year, never know, any speed with that problem and children is not a good deal, you will be able to brake it it comes off, but will be a hairy ride, wished i could help more, could rent the tools from auto zone and i could talk you through it but still will be a hard repair for a lady, but i didn't say it couldn't be done,

what do you mean by bad?
did you bend it? if so i believe your steering will just be off and your car will wanna go to a certain side of the road
i think if its bent that the steering geometry will be a bit off
why dont you just have it fixed?
they dont take that long to replace only like 1-3+ hours depends on who does it
