Pitman Arm tie rod - Pitman Arms

Is it hard to replace tie rods,sway bar links, and pitman arm?

I have a 1979 Ford Bronco and I recently took it to Cole Muffler to get a tire rotation. The guy at the garage told me that it needs tie rods, a tie rod adjusting sleeve, a pitman arm, and sway bar links. Would it be possible to put the parts on myself, and how difficult would it be? Would I need any specialty tools to put the parts on? Thank you.

not that hard if you know how to do it and have the tools. You can rent the tools and buy a repair book

if you have some mechanical ability you can do this--go to auto zone an buy service manual for your vehicle--read it --good info--get floor jack --jack stands or concrete blocks with plywood --pickle fork(rent at auto zone)--assortment of hand tools and large hammers--be sure to have front end re-aligned after finished--work safe and slow -take pic with digital camera to help you remember where things go--do the work--learn new skills--scrape some knuckles-cuss a little bit--feel proud of self for doing job and saving money--have fun and work safe

Is it easy to adjust a steering gearbox?

i've got a 92 c1500 and the steering is loose even with new pitman arm, tie-rods, idler arm, and wheel bearings. i was just wondering if i could adjust my gear box
tia
you mean the rag joint? i've looked into that and summit has a replacement shaft for $250

It's not too hard. There are actually a couple different adjustments. Both are covered here;

It's probably not the the gear mesh adjustment though, as the gears are hardened steel running in oil, and almost never wear. But before you do that, besides the parts you mentioned, make sure you check the steering column shaft. There's a little part just up from the gearbox that often wears out. Have someone turn the wheel while you compare the movement of the part above and below that joint. I've seen them completely broken, but the steering still works because there is a failsafe feature built in, kind of like most motor mounts. But it will clunk pretty good as you go back and forth. LOL
