Arthur Schalick's Pustizzi wins OT thriller to advance to Region 8 semis
EGG HARBOR TWP. – Arthur Schalick High School’s Nick Pustizzi and Gerald Owens of West Deptford stole the show at this year’s Arthur Marinelli Tournament at Egg Harbor in December. After Pustizzi won in exciting fashion in December, the two set up a similar outcome Friday in the Region 8 quarterfinals, as Owens took a 1-0 lead into the third following an escape late in the second.
Pustizzi started off the third with a takedown to take a short-lived lead as the two made their way to overtime. Pustizzi started the second overtime period with a quick reversal. He then started the second 30 seconds on top, catching Owens for three back points and the win.
“Two points was a lot better than one,” said Pustizzi. “I knew if I could hold him down or keep him from scoring two I could hold out and win the match. I always know that I can beat anyone that gets on the mat with me. I just have to be at my best the rest of this weekend.”
