Pitman Arm questions - Pitman Arms

Cherokee Pitman Arm questions ?

I kind of have an idea of what this does, but can some explain it to me. Also will I need this in a 99 cherokee with a 4 inch lift for minor wheeling

Hey Captain, the pitman arm is the link from the steering column/box to the rods that push the wheels side to side (tie-rods). The pitman are is usually about 8 inches long and on the drivers side. The passenger side has a link that is almost identical to it but just pivots and does not transmit torque, its called the idler arm. If your getting your Jeep lifted you will probably need a lowered pitman arm.

The Pitman arm stabilizes your steering from one side to the other. You have the steering arm on one side and the Pitman arm on the other and yes you will need it. You can get one that fits to your lift kit from a lot of off road 4 wheeling stores.
