i have the puller tool. When i tighten up on the tool with ym ratchet it become tight. but the pitman arm is still stuck on the gear box shaft....SHould i stop when it gets tight to use the ratchet or should i keep trying to turn it to get the pitman off..
Should i use a breaker bar socket wrench to get more leverage when i turn the pitman puller? I dont want to break the puller
woudl i do damage?
Can i turn it as hard as I want until the arm comes off?
thanks
andddddddddd wheni put the new one on...how do i get it on ..do i bang it on?
thaks
Remove the bolt and nut from the pitman arm.
Find a flat chisel or old flat screwdriver and drive it in between the the two halves enough to spread the shoulder apart a little bit so it will slide off easier.
Did you COMPLETELY remove the bolt?
It will NOT slide off if the bolt is still in there.

You will have to use a breaker bar and socket to get the arm to
break lose. It will pop lose with a great deal of pressure. The
new one will go almost all the way up on the shaft so you can
tighten the big nut good and tight.

Replacing a pitman arm on a 1997 Ford F150
Replacing the pitman arm on a 1997 Ford F150. If you are going to do this job I would suggest getting a quality puller and a good pickle fork.
