Chevy Tahoe Alignment Problems?
I took our 1999 Chevy Tahoe in for a tune-up and had them check the brakes and alignment. Just got a call that we need all this work done, need 4 ball joints, pitman arm, idler arm, front axel is leaking oil, and shock absorbers. He said the tires are bad and need to be replaced, but to not replace them until we fix the alignment, because that is wearing them down.
So, now I've spent $300 on a tune-up today and they're cleaning the rear brakes, and my question is what to do about these other problems. Total they were quoting me is close to $3,000 for all that to be fixed and new tires. We can't do that right now. Is this a dangerous problem or something we can live with and drive it for a while longer? We just paid the truck off last week (figures) and hoped to get some more use of it with no payment. Any info or suggestions would be great!!
Get a second or third opinion and ask lots of questions as to what your options are to do repairs in stages or all at once. Ball joints and steering items would be critical as are worn tires. A 99 Tahoe could need a whole lot of work if these things were let go for a while.
